Edmonton ICE District

Edmonton, AB

The Edmonton ICE District offers a new vision of urban value in the heart of downtown Edmonton. This major revitalization effort relocates the home of the Oilers NHL hockey team to the city centre and includes new retail and commercial space, a hotel, two 33-storey residential towers, and significant public realm amenities to serve the greater Edmonton population. To encourage and enhance walkability, the master plan leverages existing thoroughfares and a nearby LRT station. It provides promenades, vehicular and pedestrian access points, and a new central public plaza overlooked by amenities selected to attract a diverse mix of users—day and night, year-round.

In addition to the master plan, HPA designed and oversaw the construction of the 55-storey JW Marriott luxury hotel and condominiums.

Three carefully massed towers are oriented to maximize sunlight at street level and strategically connect the block, forming a unified community within this central hub.
Street- and podium-level mixed-use programming ensures consistent foot traffic and ongoing public engagement.

The JW Marriott luxury hotel stands 55 storeys high, as a towering complement to Rogers Place in the heart of downtown Edmonton. The hotel has 346 luxurious rooms and suites and features five levels of podium amenities including several restaurants and cafes, meeting spaces and conference halls, an outdoor swimming pool and lounging areas, and a 10,000-square-foot hotel ballroom – the largest in Edmonton.
