Luxelakes Eco-City is located just outside Chengdu, a city in central China historically intertwined with its intricate water systems, particularly the Dujiangyan irrigation system, which once sustained the Chengdu Plain. However, urbanization and pollution have eroded these vital waterways, replacing them with roads as the city’s primary arteries. Our development aims to restore Chengdu’s historic connection to water through an innovative project on a strategically positioned site south of the city.

The site’s natural contours have been studied, leading to the creation of a water network system via three small dams in the western valley. The eastern area, unsuitable for water storage, will be converted into a park, part of the "two ecological green lungs" concept. The project also includes a filtration system that uses plants and shellfish to create a self-purifying aquatic ecosystem.

The lower levels, connected to the water, house public spaces and retail, while the upper levels offer private outdoor amenities. The project also includes a landscaped path network and outdoor spaces that draw inspiration from the region’s cultural and natural heritage. The project represents a modern reconnection with Chengdu’s historical waterways, blending innovative design with deep cultural respect

Our design focuses on nine towers along the southwest border, inspired by the region’s rich history of handwoven textiles and the irregular landscapes of rice paddy fields. These cultural and natural elements guide the architectural aesthetic, with the towers arranged to offer both independent and interconnected experiences. A silver ribbon-like feature weaves through the development, linking the buildings and forming bridges over the canals.
