Encircled by the forest edge, this weekend residence is a tranquil retreat where family comes together. Conceived as a series of interconnected volumes, the single-storey home is anchored by the Great Room―the central living and dining space―at the apex of the site. Two wings accommodating the master and guest suites unfold across the gently sloping landscape, preserving long views toward the east.
Taking cues from a structure previously on the property, the exterior incorporates sun-aged barn board into its natural palette of brushed bronze and Algonquin limestone. Limestone pillars extend from the earth in varying heights as if carved by nature, framing large windows that provide uninterrupted views of the natural setting. Many materials have been locally sourced, while the well-sealed building envelope and geothermal system further enhance the sustainability of the design. Nestling into the landscape, the final work is a fusion of old and new, natural and human-made, and organic and refined to create a year-round rural getaway.
